Scott Fruge, COSS

Scott Fruge, a native of Avoyelles Parish, attended high school at Plaucheville High School, where he graduated in 1987. After being in the pipeline industry for over 20 years, Scott gained an interest and passion for safety. Thus, resulting in Scott earning a degree in Occupational Safety and Health. 

Scott’s passion for this area in the industry has influenced him to obtain his COSS Certification in 2012. He became an SGE (Special Government Employee) in 2014, which he has served as since and sits as a chairperson for the SGE Committee for the National VPPPA Board. In 2019, Scott was asked to serve on the Region 6 VPP Mentor Committee, where he has had the honor of being a mentor. In 2020, Scott was appointed as the VPP Coordinator for Louisiana and Arkansas. Due to his years of 

experience and knowledge, Scott created a safety presentation, “The VPP Slump”, which is now being implemented at the Regional and National VPP Conferences for several years. He has worked side by side with state and federal OSHA, and assisted OSHA as an SGE in over 50 OSHA audits.

Scott enjoys spoiling his grandchildren, hunting, fishing, and attending his prayer group. 

He is also an active community member, where he serves as a leader and volunteer in several organizations and events. Scott is married to his favorite person, Melenea Fruge for almost 30 years, father to four children, and “Papa” to 10 grandbabies.
